Ancients, the

Ancients, the MYTHOLOGY — The old gods or demigods that created the civilizations of the world. The Ancients refers to the mythological belief that there was a group of beings, mostly considered gods or demigods, who prevailed together to create the civilizations of the world. Many belief systems refer to the Ancients, but the specific meaning of the term varies. Some believe → the Mother was the literal mother of the Ancients, first creating the world and then spawning her children. In this variation, the Mother elects to have her children rule the → folken, hence their invention of civilization. Other variations suggest the Ancients came much later than the Mother. In this version, the two are unrelated. Here, the Ancients rose to power through more natural means, achieving deity or semi-deity status as → fayelee. Rarer traditions hold that the Mother and the Ancients were at odds with each other, leading to a war that left most of the Ancients dead or exiled and the Mother ineffectual. Regardless of the variations, most belief systems adhere to these basic tenets regarding the Ancients:

  1. They were good.

  2. They established governance among the folken.

  3. They established systems of belief and/or religion to preserve goodness in the folken and appointed folken as → khamun to lead in religious rites and worship.

  4. They are believed to either watch over the folken from another realm, visit among the folken (often in disguise) to distribute blessings and/or punishment, and/or plan a return to rule the folken at an unspecified future time.

Eric Love
I am a story teller. The goal of a story is to move people in some way. Whether with video, words or images and graphics, my end goal is always to tell a good story. When your story is told successfully, it expresses your strengths and the unique way in which you fill a need or want. With every service I offer, I seek to answer this question: what is the best way to tell this story? Showing always beats telling.
