firesprites

firesprites FAYE — → Faye beings. Believed to be a type of faye that live among the trees and rivers of the forests, firesprites aren’t intelligent beings like → fairies, though perhaps they are distantly related. Instead, they are uncomplicated creatures whose actions are dictated by instinct (similar to bees or birds). When fully grown, they are roughly the size of a man’s hand. Though their colors may vary, most are red or have a reddish hue. Their heads, hands and feet have glowing, fibrous threads (resembling hair) that give them the appearance of fire. They are birthed from the forest as glowing orbs (spores) and float in the forest for approximately two weeks before “lighting” (setting down upon a physical object to pupate). They take on the substance of that physical thing as they draw from the energy of the forest around them. Once lit, a crystal chrysalis forms and the firesprite pupates for one year. When it hatches, its lifespan is also approximately one year. → Khamun and others who know how to commune with the forest may call on the firesprites for protection, though the protection they offer is instinctive in nature.
