gu-delak CULTURE – A perceived condition of a twofold world. Gu-delak (or the lak) is a term used to describe the cultural phenomenon of mirroring between the “upper” and “lower” regions of → Mor-Thandak. Specifically, the → Dead Man’s Spine marks a separation between two halves of the continent, with → Goth and the → Great North loosely mirroring → Carde and → Ausrost in terms of culture and observances. The term refers less to a substantial or literal reflection and more to a commonly held concept that upper cultures stand as opposites to those in the eastern and southern regions. However, there are some practical ways the gu-delak plays out, including that of seasons and → Hidain observances: seasons, and the festivals linked to them, are mirrored between the two halves. The singular religious and/or spiritual similarity between the halves is lunar observances, though interpretations may vary drastically since reading the moon is often linked to seasonal or festival timing.
