Heigh, kin LINGUISTICS, SOCIOLOGY – A greeting expression. “Heigh, kin” is an expression used to greet welcome friends and families on special days such as → Hidain, weddings, and funerals. It roughly translates to “Welcome, good and kind friend.” It is typically answered by repeating the phrase, or with an added note of good will, such as, “…and may your days be gentle,” or “…may your hearts be light (or sunny).” It varies from region to region and based on the current day of celebration or mourning.
