Lunauinbroc CULTURE — A festival. One of four → Hidain (or Holy Days), Lunauinbroc is the last day of the fourth month of the year (or the eve of → Summer Han) and marks the beginning of summer. Special bonfires are kindled—flames, smoke, and ashes are believed to have protective or destructive powers. In some regions, people leap over or pass between flames to signify prowess, strength, or bravery, and this act is also considered lucky. The dew that falls on the morning following Lunauinbroc is believed to hold magical properties. Lunauinbroc also refers to midsummer festivals. It is a time of divination. In the northern hemisphere, it is celebrated at the other end of the year: the last day of the eleventh month. Its Hidain twin is → Sauingrey (celebrated on the eve of → Winter Hu); both are celebrated on the last day of the month preceding the seasonal turn.
