Order of Light
Order of Light (Order) RELIGION AND BELIEF — A religious order. Most commonly referred to as just the Order, the Order of Light is one of the oldest known religious sects. Members of this ancient order are called → dahnee, a → lynthian term which means “Coming of the Light” and refers to the belief that the world was once shrouded in a type of darkness wherein the Coming of Light was prophesied and eventually fulfilled. Though not a belief system largely held by the → folken, there are pockets of the dahnee Order which have survived and exist mostly in secret throughout → Mor-Thandak. They are believed to own the largest and most well-preserved collection of → scrips of all known spiritual tribes. Their traditions are passed down secretly among those chosen to be part of their ranks. A person can choose to become part of the Order, but a rigorous series of tests (which require years) are necessary, and most do not pass these and are eventually expelled. If chosen for the Order, a person is chosen shortly after birth. The parents are given the choice of whether they will allow their child to become part of the Order (since once a child joins the Order’s ranks, they never leave it). The basis for choosing members of the Order is known only to its members, though most who are chosen now are chosen from among villages and/or family groups who believe being chosen is a great honor. Members of the Order are considered wise and merciful and are occasionally sought to help resolve issues between warring peoples’ groups. Their monastic communes are mostly hidden from the outside world and are protected by ancient magic.
