Tanneibel
Tanneibel CULTURE — A festival. Tanneibel is the festival of low summer and one of four → Hidain (or High Holy Days). Tanneibel takes place on the first of the eighth month of the year and marks the beginning of the harvest season. Traditionally, Tanneibel was celebrated with ritualistic athletic competitions (often to the death), feasting, matchmaking, and trade. Tanneibel still offers athletic competitions, but in a lighthearted, festive way. Feasting, matchmaking, and trade continue to be part of the festivities. An offering (or sacrifice) of the first fruits of the field is often made, though to which deity(s) depends on the region. Much of the festival, especially the rituals and offerings, takes place on the top of hills or mountains. Tanneibel, like its Hidain twin, → Feilebroc (low winter, celebrated on the first day of the second month), is a time of divination.
