Witchlight is a magical aura that is thought to be a portent of coming evil or death, a residue of the stain of evil or death on a place or person, or a warning of the possibility of evil or death. Though there is no hard and fast description of the appearance of witchlight, it is believed to take many forms and is characterized only by an unnatural light in an otherwise normal setting: a glowing fog or water, beams of light with no source, glowing skin or eyes of the dead or bones, a hovering shimmer, etc. Though witchlight is most often associated with negative tidings, there are those who suggest that it may also bear good news, offer direction to lost travelers, or bring comfort for the bereaving.
