cumatu CULTURE — A rite of passage. A cumatu is any rite of passage whereby children symbolically (or practically) pass into adulthood. Cumatu are as varied as there are cultures. Many are associated with religious observances. A cumatu may be a simple ceremony lasting minutes or hours, as in the → kolinga in → Ausrost, or up to several years, as with the → kohlas of → Carde.
