elwhey CULTURE, RELIGION AND BELIEF — A musical term. An elwhey is any song derived from a religious or spiritual belief system. More specifically, the term refers to songs that express foundational aspects of the sect as manifested through the humanity of its participants, especially those who shaped the system during its formative years. A form of traditional folken tune which has been passed down for many generations, most often orally, elwheys convey both spiritual and cultural meaning and are often considered a form of → scrip.
