milk fern

milk fern FLORA — A fruit-bearing plant. Milk fern is a rare fern that bears fruit that contains a milky white substance that can be extracted from the bulbs (called hearts). The milk is useful when administered to painful cuts, scrapes, and other external injuries for the reduction of pain. Though its medicinal uses are mostly limited to external pain relief, in some cases it may be taken orally in very small doses, but the application of such use widely varies in purpose and effectiveness. One universal understanding of milk fern is that its milk is an effective poison: when ingested orally, it causes violent, painful death.
