Western Mountains, the

Western Mountains, the GEOGRAPHY — A mountain region in → Mor-Thandak. The Western Mountain range separates the southern region of → Carde from the northwestern region of → Goth. The farther north one travels through the range, the more impassable the mountains become. Though the Western Mountains only refer to the southernmost series of mountains in the range (above that are the → Kathians), it is part of a vast range of mountains culminating in Goth with its highest peak: the → Mountain of the Dragon (birthplace and home of the → Skree people). For many southern → folken, often superstitious, the range is considered the far north with nothing beyond it but myth and danger. Thusly, it is referred to as the → Northern Mountains. The full mountain range is known properly as the Kathian Range.
